The True Worship

English

Few believers pause to ask whether God is actually pleased with the worship they offer Him. This booklet takes up that question directly, beginning with Jesus' words to the Samaritan woman: "The Father is seeking such to worship Him... those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:23–24). If God is seeking true worshipers, He must not be easily finding them — which means not every form of worship is accepted. The booklet is structured around seven questions, tracing the theme of true worship from the shadow of the Old Covenant through to its New Covenant reality in Christ. The worship due is to God the Father alone (Exod. 34:14). The worshipers are all believers, constituted a holy priesthood (Rev. 1:5–6; 1 Pet. 2:5), not a clergy class. The place of worship is the church as the heavenly Jerusalem (Heb. 12:22–23), not any earthly building. The offerings are the five spiritual offerings of Leviticus 1–7, fulfilled in Christ: the burnt offering (His absolute obedience to the Father), the meal offering (His perfect humanity), the peace offering (His reconciliation of God and man), the sin offering (His destruction of the power of sin and death), and the trespass offering (His blood that cleanses all transgression). These offerings are not doctrines to be studied but realities to be experienced in daily life, by learning to walk in Christ as the good land (Col. 2:6; 2 Pet. 1:3–11). The fruit of that daily experience — the best of what Christ has gained in us — is what believers bring to offer at the Lord's Table, the New Covenant fulfillment of all seven annual feasts. The goal of this worship is twofold: God's satisfaction, and the believers' own transformation and perfection, so that they may be among the firstfruits raptured to the heavenly Mount Zion at Christ's return (Rev. 14:4).
